Brent Munro, Clinical Psychologist
Brent is an endorsed Clinical Psychologist with over 17 years of experience and a Board-approved supervisor. He personally provides assessment and therapy in Perth CBD and by telehealth, including for doctors, lawyers, police, serving military members and veterans.
Individual consultations are $280 for 50 minutes. Medicare rebates are available with an eligible referral. Funded appointment arrangements are confirmed before booking.

You may be making difficult decisions, looking after patients or clients, or responding to situations that stay with you after work. It can be hard to seek help when you are used to being the person others turn to.
At Axis, you can talk about the pressures of your role and what is happening outside it. That might mean addressing burnout or anxiety, working through trauma, or dealing with relationship difficulties that have become harder to ignore.
Brent also sees adults from other backgrounds, as well as children and young people. Your occupation is one part of understanding what has brought you to therapy.

Experience
Brent's clinical background
Brent has worked in private practice, public services and community organisations, including Next Step drug and alcohol programs. His background includes therapy with people facing trauma, substance use difficulties and complex care needs, alongside work with children, families and child protection services.
He has extensive experience in senior clinical leadership, including as a Senior Clinical Services Manager with responsibility for clinical quality and service delivery. This has involved supporting clinicians with complex work as well as providing therapy himself.
As a Board-approved supervisor, Brent provides clinical supervision covering assessment and treatment planning, ethical decisions, report writing and professional development. His further training includes child trauma and sexualised behaviours.

Working with Brent
Early appointments are a chance to explain what has been happening and what you would like help with. Brent asks about your history and current circumstances, then discusses his understanding of the difficulties and the options for treatment with you.
Some work is practical, such as changing habits that keep anxiety going or finding ways to manage overwhelming emotions. Other work involves understanding longstanding patterns in relationships or addressing experiences that still affect you. You can ask why an approach is being suggested and say when something is not helping.
Brent draws on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), DBT-informed skills, and schema and relational approaches. The choice depends on the difficulty you are facing and what you agree to work on together.
He has used EMDR since 2014 and has completed full, advanced and child-focused EMDR training. If trauma treatment is part of your care, he will discuss whether EMDR is appropriate and how to prepare for it. You can read more about EMDR therapy at Axis.

Privacy and feeling understood
Brent provides the assessment and therapy at Axis. The administration team helps with enquiries and appointment arrangements. Questions about confidentiality, contact with referrers and any reporting requirements can be discussed before you begin, particularly when someone else is funding your appointments. Axis welcomes LGBTIQA+SB clients and people from different cultural backgrounds. You can talk with Brent about how your identity, disability, neurodivergence or beliefs affect your experiences and what you need from therapy, including anything that has made previous care difficult.
